Amy Winehouse's 'Back to Black' Dress to Be Auctioned For Charity
November 9, 2011 by: MADISON VANDERBERG

When Amy wore the dress she was virtually unknown. The white strapless dress featured pink polka-dots and was relatively simple. When Amy set out to photograph the album cover her stylist, Louise Winwood, searched for clothes for the shoot and found Thai designer Disaya who would loan out the dress to newcomer Winehouse.
Who knew that album would go on to sell 3.2 million copies.
After the 2006 shoot the dress was returned to the designer, but after Winehouse’s death on July 23, Disaya decided the now-iconic dress should be sold for the sake of charity.
Kerry Taylor Auctions “Passion for Fashion” auction on November 29 will take place in London and the auction house has estimated that the dress will fetch up to $32,000.
Auctioner Kerry Taylor says Amy’s dress is being treated in the same regard as other fashion greats:
“Over the years I have sold many highly valuable couture pieces related to celebrities and style icons, including the Duchess of Windsor, Audrey Hepburn and Princess Diana. In my opinion, what makes this particular dress so special, is that is an emblematic reminder of the magic voice and sublime talent of Amy Winehouse – a sound that resonates with an entire generation and always will,” says Taylor.
Other items sold at the auction will include two gowns from Dame Elizabeth Taylor’s personal collection and the dress worn by Audrey Hepburn when she accepted her Oscar for “Roman Holiday” in 1954.
“I am pleased to help raise funds for her charity and encourage fans, the music industry and museums the world over to bid with us on November 29th,” adds Taylor.
In other Winehouse news, her former producers Salaam Remi Gibbs and Mark Ronson have put together a new album of previously unheard material including both original songs and covers. The album will include songs written before, during and after the releases of both her 2003 album “Frank” and her 2006 album “Back to Black.”
'Amy Winehouse Lioness: Hidden Treasures' will be released December 5th along with a lead single, “Out Day Will Come.” Several dollars from each album purchase will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
According to a statement, “It quickly became apparent to Salaam and Mark that they had a collection of songs that deserved to be heard, a collection of songs that were a fitting testament to Amy the artist and, as importantly, Amy their friend.”
