Award Show

The theme of the night was bright colors and daring silhouettes. Here is the best-dressed list from the 2012 SAG Awards.
Emma Stone: Emma Stone made the risky decision to wear a tea-length gown (who do you think you are? Taylor Swift?) and it paid off. She wore a frilly strapless Alexander McQueen gown, but my only problem with the outfit was the shoes. Are those porcupines on her toes?

Sarah Michelle Gellar: The sky is falling and it landed on Sarah Michelle Gellar’s dress. As one of the first people to walk the red carpet this evening, I can’t help but wonder why she was actively trying to show this thing off? The dress, designed by Monique Lhullier, was a white gown with blue splatter pant that looked like a tie-dye experiment gone wrong.

For reasons unknown, this awards ceremony is named after a deer-like creature. Let’s just focus on the fashion.
Here are the highlights from the red carpet at the Rhein-Main-Hallen in Wiesbaden, Germany last night. Because this was Germany’s main fashion show, some of the names you might not recognize, but their style is still stunning.
Lady Gaga: Of course Gaga would not be dressed as a human being and so at the Bambi awards she did not disappoint, if by being disappointed you of course mean, Gaga dressed nicely in something that other women would also find attractive.

Shakira: While walking the carpet, Shakira wore a glittering strapless gown. The gold dress featured some over-the-top jewels all over the bodice with a poofy skirt and train. It walked a fine line between red-carpet glamour and pageant queen.
She later changed into another poofy pink gown for a performance and sparkling skinny jeans and lace top for her second song.

While some actresses sizzled in red-on-the-Red-Carpet, others stunned in sparkles. Here are our picks for Best Dressed from this years Emmy Awards.
Christina Hendricks: When does Christina Hendricks not look amazing? Never. Ever. You could put her in a paper bag and that red hair and those curves will always make it work. Exuding Old Hollywood glamour, Hendricks was wearing a custom made rose and gold Johanna Johnson dress set with Swarovski stones, Christian Louboutin shoes, a Judith Lieber clutch and Palladium jewelry.
Lea Michele: Michele was dressed head to toe in red-carpet red. She looked elegant and confident in Marchesa.

Olivia Munn: Olivia Munn’s Emmy dress screamed “Welcome to Emerald City.” She wore a bright green Carolina Herrera gown. Like did she go to the Carolina Herrera sample sale? What did she tell her stylist, “I’m going for a Christmas look”? Let’s just say I wasn’t “green with envy.”
Zooey Deschanel: Deschanel wore a pink strapless Monique Lhullier gown that looked like a middle America bridesmaid, or a Mall-of-American pageant winner, or the queen of a bubble gum factory (yah that’s right, bubble gum factory). C’mon! Where is your plunging back and 6-foot train!? But then again, this is Zooey Deschanel who is supposed to be “quirky” or something…or at least that’s what hot guys have been telling me…

Hollywood has the Oscars, New York has the Met Gala. Hollywood’s biggest stars were dressed to the nines today hoping to impress the only woman whose opinion matters—Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour.
The theme of the Costume Institute exhibition this year: “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity.” But judging from most of the outfits, it was more like “Who Can Look the Worst.”
Sadly there were more bad dressed stars than good, so let’s take a look at the nights biggest fashion disasters:
The Worst Dressed:
Kristen Stewart: KStew awkwardly walked the red carpet at the 2011 MET gala in a Proenza Schouler gown. Sadly I’m not sure who to blame for this one, Kristin or the designer? It looks like Proenza ran out of ideas, saw the curtain hanging at his grandmother’s house and decided to make a dress out of it. Where’s her figure? She has great legs, it would have been nice to see a hint of them. Fashion fail.

Here’s a rundown of my top 4 favorite looks from the carpet.
Most Playful: It took a few moments to focus after seeing photos of Julianne Hough from the red carpet. She looked so radiant wearing Randi Rahm’s Melissa evening gown. What I loved the most about the dress was that it was backless. Guess all that training has been paying off because her back looked great!
Most Daring: Nicole Kidman looked like she was whipping Keith Urban right before they arrived to the red carpet. Maybe Keith and Nicole are into to S&M thing and all power to them. I loved Nicole’s dominatrix inspired L’Wren Scott Fall 2011 dress. It was quite different from the conservative dresses we usually see Nicole wearing.
Most Elegant: Taylor Swift's dress was my favorite of the night. She was wearing a nude Elie Saab Couture Spring 2010 gown. What I loved about the dress was all the detail with the beading and feathers. She was definitely dressed like a winner!
Favorite Color: Carrie Underwood never disappoints on the red carpet and last night was no exception. Carrie Underwood looked stunning wearing a one-of-a-kind Jean Fares Couture gown. What I loved most about Carrie’s gown was the color. The deep purple full-length gown was embellished with jeweled pockets and featuring a very low cut back.

So what do you do with someone that’s over the top? Duh, give them an award for being a style icon.

Turn every street into your own personal catwalk with these great tips from style expert George Kotsiopoulos:
Who was your best dressed nominee of the awards show season?
“Two of my favorites are Mila Kunis and Emma Stone, because I think they’re super cool and talented girls – the full package. As newcomers, they’ve both been shining and becoming potential fashion powerhouses.”
What’s the key to getting red carpet ready?
“There are a lot of tips and tricks that I recommend for celebrities to avoid fashion disaster on the red carpet.”
--Avoid slipping and tripping by scuffing up those new stiletto soles ahead of time with a razor blade or box cutter.
--There’s lots of talking on the carpet, so keep your smile sparkling and your mouth fresh with great tasting gum in between interviews. I like Trident Vitality – it’s the new, stylish “IT” gum in Hollywood this year. It’s in some of the hottest Oscar lounges, so a lot of celebs might be carrying it.
--It’s important to keep your skin from getting too shiny on the red carpet. Carry blotting tissues to gently remove excess oil and shine. Blotting tissues are also great to put away that gum for your next interview!
Who do you think has the worst sense of style when it comes to the red carpet and fashion?
Christina Aguilera has been looking not so cute lately, and of course, Helena Bonham Carter is looking like a deranged Scarlett O’Hara.
What’s a fashion don't?
Avoid wrinkly fabrics when considering dresses - don’t just try them on when you’re standing up. Sit down in them to see if the stay smooth and keep their shape. There’s usually a long limo ride before you to get to the red carpet and wrinkly looks messy and unflattering on anyone.
