I love awards season. The stars parade around the red carpet like a weird human version of a dog show and us mere mortals can ooh and ahh over the beautiful dresses we can only ever dream of wearing.

The theme of the night was bright colors and daring silhouettes. Here is the best-dressed list from the 2012 SAG Awards.

Emma Stone: Emma Stone made the risky decision to wear a tea-length gown (who do you think you are? Taylor Swift?) and it paid off. She wore a frilly strapless Alexander McQueen gown, but my only problem with the outfit was the shoes. Are those porcupines on her toes?

Michelle Williams: You can’t go wrong with a red dress by Valentino. The dress is demure and conservative, but it plays on a retro sexiness much like Michelle’s onscreen persona, Marilyn Monroe.

Angelina Jolie: By default Angelina Jolie makes this list because she is so stunning. She was wearing a daring black Jenny Packham gown with statement earrings. Her hottest accessory was obviously her man Brad Pitt.

Emily Blunt: Talk about bright colors! Emily looked lovely in her green Oscar de la Renta gown. She stood out while walking the red carpet because she was rocking the bright green. Definitely one of the best dressed ladies of the night!

Jayma Mays: Jayma Mays plays the quiet and mousy Emma Pillsbury on “Glee,” but this glittering gun metal Reem Acra proves that Mays is not messing around when it comes to fashion. The dress may have been over-the-top for some, but you can’t deny she caught everyone’s attention in this gown.

Sofia Vergara: I personally think Sofia Vergara is wearing out the mermaid shape, but she knows what works and she keeps rocking it. In this fuschia Marchesa gown, Vergara showed off her iconic curves and looked great as usual.

Kyra Sedgwick: Kevin Bacon who? I usually refer to Kyra Sedgwick as “Kevin Bacon’s wife,” but this woman is stunning in a red-orange cut-out gown by Emilio Pucci. She’s gotta be nearly 50 years old, but is still rocking this backless dress.

Naya Rivera: Proving that the Glee cast can really clean up, Naya Rivera looked stunning in a pearl white sparkly gown by Naeem Khan. She kept the jewels to a minimum and looked very elegant compared to her onscreen persona.

Viola Davis: Viola Davis is getting used to her newfound royalty on the red carpet and looked like a Grecian goddess in this gold and white gown by Marchesa.

Berenice Bejo: Making her Hollywood debut as one of the nominated stars of The Artist, Bejo looked stunning in a heavily beaded Ralph Lauren champagne gown. The dress looked elegant on her slim figure and is it just me or does the dress look like Kate Middleton’s wedding gown without sleeves?

Jessica Chastain: After a couple red-carpet misses early on in awards season, Chastain has gotten it together overnight. She looked fun and flirty and elegant in this simple sapphire column dress by Calvin Klein.

Katrina Bowden: After announcing her engagement, “30 Rock” actress Katrina Bowden went with “wedding white” in a stunning white Amsale gown.
