Trends From the 2010 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet
January 18, 2010 by: MICHAEL O'CONNOR

Keeping with that dichotomy, neutral-toned gowns were quite popular today, as well as gorgeous jewel tones. Most stars steered away from the LBD, and took a chance on a splash of color.
The green gowns worn by our fashion-forward actresses were the ones that stood out the best (i.e. actresses like Sigourney Weaver, Amy Adams, and Gabourey Sidibe all rocked different shades of green).
We loved how daring Cameron Diaz was in a gorgeous red Alexander McQueen. Sandra Bullock meanwhile kept things girly in her sheer and iridescent purple Bottega Veneta.

Perhaps the most popular trend on the carpet was the off-the-shoulder look, donned by Anna Kendrick, Drew Barrymore, and Jennifer Aniston.
The dresses did much of the talking, and jewelry was more understated with stars opting for one or two statement pieces. The predominant jewelry seemed to be platinum and diamonds. We noticed a lot of color mixed in, like tanzanite and emerald rather than standard diamond pieces.
Expect next weekend's SAG Awards to continue the trend of classic and simple gowns, with splashes of color. But this is all gearing up to what the stars will be wearing on the biggest night of the year--the Academy Awards!
