The Cannes Film Festival began this week, in honor of the film festival’s illustrious history with film and fashion, we take a look back at the most memorable red carpet moments in the Cannes history.

Sophia Loren: In 1955 Sophia Loren had a total “fashion moment” when she walked the red carpet in this white strapless sweetheart gown, black gloves, and white fur shawl. That year she caused a stir as the most photographed woman at the event.

Angelina Jolie: Angelina Jolie debuted her baby bump during the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. She was ready to pop but didn’t officially announce the pregnancy until Jack Black outed her at the premiere of Kung Fu Panda. Why Kung Fu Panda premiered at Cannes is beyond me, regardless, Angelia was the hottest pregnant women ever in this emerald green maternity Grecian-style gown by Max Azria.

Uma Thurman: Uma Thurman was a total knockout at last years 2011 Cannes Film Festival. She wore the hell out of an electric blue Armani Prive gown. The gown featured rhinestone embellishments around the neckline. The blue just popped against the red carpet.

Princess Diana: The A-List festival got the royal treatment in 1987 when Princess Diana showed up to the film festival in a baby-blue Catherine Walker gown.

Madonna: Madonna showed up to the 1991 Cannes Film Festival in her underwear. Yes, proof that lady Gaga isn’t the first person to flash her undergarments on the red carpet; her Madgesty has been doing it since 1991. She wore high-waisted bloomers and the iconic Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra.

Grace Kelly: Grace Kelly made an appearance at the 1955 Cannes Film Festival and kept it low-key in a white blouse and high waisted brocade Capri pants. Grace exuded style even when she dressed down. This was actually the Cannes trip where she met her future husband Prince Rainier III.

Brigitte Bardot: Back when Brigitte Bardot was still a brunette, the actress had heads turning in her black dress with full skirt at Cannes Film Festival in 1956. She even paired the dress with, gasp, flat shoes, but still rocked it.

Jennifer Aniston: I just like to remember the times when Brad Pitt and Jenifer Aniston were still together, also, if you can believe it, Jennifer Aniston used to wear something other than a LBD. At the 2004 Film Festival she stunned in this shimmery ivory column dress by Versace Atelier.
