It’s summer, which means its time to update your hair style and we’re giving you the top 2011 hair styles that are making their rounds on the red carpet and runways.

You’ve probably seen the one shoulder wave styles in hair magazines, runway photos and on the red carpet, and believe it or not, it’s super easy to do. We have a step-by-step guide to get the perfect one shoulder wave—which is the hottest hairstyle for 2011.

Step 1:
Blow dry your hair upside down. This step is very important because it will give you enough volume to last the entire night. Use a large round brush for this step because it will make your waves look more natural. Natural is always good. If you want an extra boost, just part your way the opposite direction you usually do.

Step 2:
Next up divide your hair into one-inch sections and curl them. If you have shoulder length or longer hair, make sure to use a larger curling iron, something above a 1 inch barrel will work best. This is the perfect hairstyle for curly hair because your natural waves will help boast the volume you need for the style.

Step 3:
After you’ve curled your entire head, you can tease the top part of your crown and the side the curls are on for added volume. After you’ve achieved the perfect side waves use hair spray to hold it all in place. But beware: do not use extra strength hairspray--use the flexible light kind. It’ll look better if it’s a little messy and not too precise.

Where they showed off their 2011 hair style:

‘Gossip Girl’ star Blake Lively went for a more loose, messy side do while on the red carpet for Alexander McQueen: 'Savage Beauty' Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art New York City in February 2011.

‘Slumdog Millionaire’ beauty Freida Pinto also sported the same look as Blake at the Alexander McQueen: 'Savage Beauty' Costume Institute Gala, but Freida’s wasn’t as mess. If you’d rather have Blake’s look simply run your fingers through your hair after you curl it. If you’d rather have Freida’s look add more hairspray after each curl to make sure the curls stay intact.

Country cutie Taylor Swift is infamous for her curly locks, but she went for a romantic side wave at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards while posing on the red carpet. Her red lips perfectly complimented her side wave—very Veronica Lake!

Salma Hayek always looks fabulous on the red carpet. She rocked this side wave style at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival for ‘Midnight in Paris’ with a gold sequined dress. Add red lips, teardrop earrings and a strapless dress and you’ll have heads turning in no time.
