As Paris’s Haute Couture week treks on, Chanel showed it’s couture collection. The show paid homage to Coco Chanel circa 1932 and Karl Lagerfeld called the collection “New Vintage.”

The show took place at the Grand Palais in Paris where Lagerfeld usually shows his ready-to-wear shows. I guess he’s already over the runways built inside faux jets and gardens at Versailles like in recent shows.

Front row guests included the usual fashion-minded chicks, Alexa Chung, Diane Kruger, Milla Jovovich, and Sofia Coppola.

The collection itself was quintessential Chanel. Lots of tweed: Tweed trench coats, tweed suits, tweed dresses…

Outfits were accented by billowy pastel scarves tied around the neck. Shinny pink dresses and suit separates were adorned in tiny pink flowers. There were wool coats embellished in shiny lurex yarn and every model wore metallic tights under their garments.

The tweed parade made way to elegant black and white evening gowns. Most of the gowns maintained elements of a business aesthetic, with big collars and button detailing.

Highlights include a sheer shift dress covered in pom-poms and another gossamer gown in petal pink covered in life sized camellia flowers.

The tour de force moment came during the finale when IT-model-of-the-moment Lindsey Wixson paraded down the catwalk in a gorgeous white wedding gown with a skirt made entirely of white flowers.
