2012 Critics Choice Awards Fashion: Who Was a Hit and Who Was a Miss?

The Critics Choice Movie Awards were last night, which means more chances to see celebrities wearing pretty gowns. While red carpet stars like Ryan Gosling and Angelina Jolie did not show up to the event, we made do with the fashion hits and misses from the rest of Hollywood royalty.

Charlize Theron: While I cannot pronounce the name of Charlize Theron’s Azzedine Alaia gown, it doesn’t matter because all you need to say is, “wow.” This stunning black gown featured an exaggeratedly ruched skirt and figure-hugging bodice.

Elle Fanning: I understand that Elle Fanning is only 13-years-old, so she should wear fun and age appropriate dresses, but a sunflower print and mint green gown by Rodarte was hardly what we meant. Is Miu Miu only dressing Hailee Steinfeld now? What’s a 13-year-old gotta do to get a cocktail dress in this town?

Michelle Williams: Michele Williams must still be channeling Marilyn Monroe, because she went with a vintage and retro feel with this black and white Chanel Gown.

Emma Stone: After her Green Gucci blazer look at the People’s Choice Awards from the previous night, Emma Stone wore an emerald green Jason Wu gown with key hole neckline and black belt. I could have lived without the belt, however.

Shailene Woodley: Shailene Woodley is making her Awards Season debut and so far, so good. In a pale gray Calvin Klein Collection gown she’s proving that she may be young, but that doesn’t mean she has to dress it. The simple gown looked like something Angelina Jolie would rock and she kept her hair, make-up, and accessories simple so the focus was all on the silhouette of the dress.

Kristen Dunst: Some fashion blogs liked this look, but I don’t know how I feel about Dunst’s short black dress by Dior. It almost seems unfinished at the bottom and the high neckline featured a couple large black bows that looked like an afterthought or the product of a glue gun accident.

Jessica Chastain: Jessica Chastain is very new to the whirlwind awards season and after some missteps in fashion (her dress to the Palm Springs Film Festival), she’s starting to figure it out. In a pale Pink Balenciaga gown, the pastel dress looked great with her skin and simple hair and make-up, but she could up played up the dress with a clutch or some jewelry, at least.
