Dior Announces New Artistic Director – Raf Simons
After John Galliano went crazy and was fired as artistic director last year, Dior has had a hard time filling his shoes.

Names like Marc Jacobs, Alber Elbaz, and Haider Ackermann were all thrown around but apparently it’s hard to replace a crazy anti-semite. Who knew!?

Anyways, Raf Simons has been unveiled as Dior’s new artistic director. Simons was formerly the creative director at Jil Sander, but quit in February after presenting his final show at Milan Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2012/2013.

Simons career first began as a menswear designer and also a furniture designer. He released this statement regarding his new position at Dior, “Around the globe, the name Dior symbolized the ultimate in elegance and refinement. It is with the utmost respect for its tremendous history, its unparalleled knowledge and craftsmanship that I am joining the magnificent house of Dior.”

Simons also called Dior’s founder “the most inspiring couturier.”

Before Dior appointed Raf Simons, Galliano’s longtime assistant Bill Gaytten had been acting as interim director.

The fashion house calls Simons “one of today’s greatest talents” who will “propel [Dior’s] iconic style into the 21st century.”

Simons told the New York Times, “The first time I heard about the Dior position. I thought, ‘This feels right.’”

“Of course I haven’t been in the archives yet, but for me the strongest impact is the first 10 years of Dior and how to link that to the 21st century. Mr. Dior was very innovative during a short time span,” says Simons.
