Wrap dress superstar designer Diane von Furstenberg’s right hand man, creative director Yvan Mispelaere, is on the exit and stepping off the line’s runway for good.
After just two and a half years, he’s leaving the US label “stepping down from his post effective immediately,” only two days after DVF’s spring/summer 2013 runway show at the tents in New York Fashion Week.
"I came to DVF to help further the brand's mission and create a world-class design team," said Mispelaere to Vogue UK, "I am confident that we have been able to achieve that during my time with the company. I can't thank Diane enough for the opportunity to work with her and such talented people. The group is now well-positioned for even greater success, and I am eager to take on my next challenge."
Von Furstenberg also voiced her love of her now former creative director.
"Yvan joined us almost three years ago and has added enormous value,” said von Furstenberg. “He also put together a highly skilled design team to support our growth both in fashion and accessories. I am very thankful and proud of his accomplishments here and I look forward to our strong team continuing to create the signature DVF look for women everywhere."
Women’s Wear Daily reports that Mispelaere’s leave arrives upon the recent addition of DVF’s new co-chairman Joel Horowitz, the former Tommy Hilfiger CEO and executive chairman, but there’s no outright connection between the two transitions.
DVF and Yvan were a strong team. We’ll keep our sights on what he does in the near future.
