It used to be that vegans were thought of as crazy, cow-hugging hippies. But these days, more and more people are opting for a meat and dairy free diet. And even more celebs are jumping on the bandwagon, too.

Bill Clinton was the latest to announce his transition to veganism, saying that a vegan regimen will help to reverse the heart and blood vessel damage caused by cardiovascular disease.

"It's turning a ship around before it hits the iceberg, but I think we're beginning to turn it around," Clinton told CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta. While going vegan definitely has its health benefits, if not done right, it can be just as unhealthy. A lot of inexperienced vegans try to fill the meat void with junk food like potato chips. But done right, becoming vegan is actually a much healthier option.

In February, Oprah and 378 Harpo employees became vegan for a week. 300 of the subjects--including Oprah--made it through the entire week, losing a total of 444 pounds. According to Oprah’s website, they also used “a record amount of toilet paper.” Oh, good. Thanks for sharing.

Despite the results, Oprah didn’t make the decision to remain vegan.

Mike Tyson, on the other hand, has recently made the decision to stop eating meat. I hope he knows ears count.

"I hate vegan food. But this is what I found out, of course, the food that tastes good is not good for you,” Tyson said of his new diet. When asked whether he misses eating meat, Tyson said: “Don't miss anything like that, no. This is my whole life now."

Tyson apparently cut it out to avoid “drama” from his life. I don’t know what kind of drama this guy had that involved cheeseburgers, but good for him.

And remember the Old Spice guy, Isaiah Mustafa? The guy on the horse? He tried a thirty-day vegan diet, saying:

“Normally, I love steakhouses and burgers, but right now, I’m on a vegan diet for 30 days. For a month, I have to abide by five rules: No alcohol. No processed sugar. No gluten. No animal products or byproducts. No caffeine. I pretty much eat lentils and certain types of tofu. I can’t wait for this to be over.”

But Mustafa wasn’t making a lifestyle change—it was just a cleanse.

Robin Williams has not only gone vegan—he’s gone raw vegan. Talk about hard core. After recently having heart surgery, Williams made the decision to go raw in order to live a healthier lifestyle.

So if you’re going to jump on the bandwagon along with these celebs, remember—just because Funyuns don’t have meat in them doesn’t mean they’re good for you.
