After announcing that Dolce & Gabbana just shut the doors on it’s D&G line, the duo, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana says this is better for branding, unlike other big fashion houses with off-shoots of their brands, Dolce & Gabbana says they will be more recognizable without the “D&G” moniker.

“D&G will still exist,” they explain, “but as the logo of Dolce & Gabbana.”

They also take a slight dig at other monogrammed labels.

“Like the LV of Louis Vuitton, or the double C’s of Chanel. When we die, we want to leave something very recognizable. If you want to make something for the rest of your life, you need to make one, not two, “ says the designers.

However, despite frowning upon the “double C’s of Chanel,” they say their dream was always to be as iconic as Chanel.

“We are happy because we use the logo. We talk about this very little because we are a private company, but I will tell you. 26 years ago, when we started out, our dream was to become like Chanel. Not in style, but as iconic.”

Obviously not in style. For every tweed Chanel jacket there is an opposite yet equal Dolce & Gabbana leopard print mini dress with front zipper.

The brand also thinks it’s time for another big fashion label to exist. They formed 26 years ago and are still the youngest of the big design houses.

“I think it is time to change. If you think we are the last fashion designers – we came out 26 years ago. No one is big like us. There is a lot I know but a big success? We were the last one. We need somebody new.”

In other loose talk with the eccentric designers, Stefano Gabbana admits he’s not that crazy over Kate Middleton the way everyone else has become. Maybe he’s just jealous that Sarah Burton is her go-to designer and they aren’t?

“She’s nice, but I’m not crazy for her,” says Gabbana of the Duchess of Cambridge, “She’s a simple girl, she’s sexy, she’s dressed in a nice way, but she’s a girl. There are a lot of beautiful girls.”

But he says he’d dress her up and make her the kind of sexy he adores, “[I’d dress her in] a necklace with a rose and a Virgin. A little rose, black, with a stone. In a tight dress, a sexy dress. All the younger generation, they love sexy. And the older one, too!”

However, he may not be crazy for UK royalty, but Stefano seems to like pop’s royalty Madonna. He talks about her upcoming fashion line, Truth or Dare.

“She [Madonna] knows many things. She has a style. There are a lot of pop stars making fashion collections – Kylie and J.Lo, Puff Diddy and Kanye West. Maybe next season, we should sing a song.”
