Elizabeth Taylor's Old Jewelry Sells For $200 Million
February 9, 2012 by: MADISON VANDERBERG

Dame Elizabeth Taylor passed away in March 2011 and since then her entire estate of fashion, artwork, and jewelry has been auctioned off in New York and London, with the final gavel dropping last night ending the auction process that lasted several months.
More that 1,800 items went for sale including Vincent Van Gogh paintings and a 33.19-carat diamond ring given to Taylor by Richard Burton.
The items were all auctioned off by Christies Auction house and the whole lot sold for nearly $200 million. Most items went for 50-times their pre-sale estimates. This just proves that there are a lot of rich people in American who like pearls and paintings. Basically, the auction made TOO much money, this is what I like to call, a first world problem.
“It has been an incredible honor for Christie’s to present this storied collection to the global collecting community,” says Marc Porter, chairman of Christie’s Auctions.
“The global outpouring of affection and admiration for Elizabeth Taylor from fans and collectors alike has been amazing for us to witness,” he continued.
According to Porter, this was the most successful private collection sales ever presented at an auction ever. You mean Liz Taylor’s auction made more money that the auction to bid on a tissue that Scarlet Johansson once sneezed into? NO WAY!
It also helps that Liz Taylor had the most insane and expensive jewelry box ever. From what I gathered, men just threw jewels at her. Her first dates were probably at Tiffanys.
