Emma Stone and Mother in Beautiful Awareness Campaign for Breast Cancer
Emma Stone and her triple negative breast cancer survivor mother Krista appear together in the first ad for Revlon’s public service campaign “Your Lips Can Save Lives.”

But before you keep reading, go home and hug your mom now. I’ll wait…

In the beautiful black and white portrait, the mother hugs her 23-year-old daughter to illustrate the bond the two share, especially during the 25 “really difficult, terrifying” weeks of chemotherapy Krista endured four years ago to battle the disease.

The PSA’s message is encouraging loved ones to talk to each other about cancer and early detection. Emma is serving as Revlon’s global brand ambassador. The shoot brought back strong memories for the “Amazing Spider-Man’” actress of when her mother was diagnosed in 2008 at 48 years old.

“To me, as her daughter who was not going through that incredible struggle, I had this insane amount of clarity,” says Emma to USA Today. “My mind is so muddled all the time with the past and the future, that it was like an inexplicable jolt into the ‘now’ the whole time that she was going through this. Because I realized—all you have is the present.”

The touching picture will run in national women’s magazines through October and November.

“It was hugely emotional, and I think everyone on set knew that and was hugely supportive of that,” says Emma of the photo shoot directed by photographer Steven Klein.
