Black Girls Rock 2012 Red Carpet Fashion Wrap Up
This has not been a good week or red carpet fashion so far--first there were the uninspired messes at the American Horror Story premiere, and now this. At the Black Girls Rock 2012 Event in New York City last night, everyone seemed to be trying really, really hard for avant-garde high fashiony-ness, and no one got it right. In order from least to most terrible, we have:

Kerry Washington wore Marchesa to accept her Star Power award, and while it wasn't a bad dress in theory, it was A) not so great for the red carpet and B) not okay with those pointy pointy Louboutin pumps. Did like her clutch, though, so this look gets a B-.

Then there was Eva Longoria in a Dana Budeanu rug dress and nude Louboutins. The shape of this thing actually made Eva Longoria, who is like 4'9" and 95 pounds, look bulky and awkward. And the feathery/cat-ate-your-curtains epaulettes? No thanks. C

LaLa Anthony made a Balmain velvet dress look cheap, which is quite a feat. The runway look had it styled with a belt, golden cuffs, tights and booties, where it was a bit more passable. Lala, however, wore the deep teal dress alone with spiky, pointy black pumps, and it looked like something from the H&M sale rack. The dress costs over five grand, so. D-

And then there was Ciara. Ciara usually wears something short, torn up and covered in rhinestones, so it was pretty cool to see her in something completely different. However, this is one of those looks that's best kept on the runway. The monk-like head-to-knee black smock thing made her look like she'd just run in from the salon, and the top over skirt over pants thing has just not happened for us yet.
