Harper's Bazaar Brazil Cover Confirms Gisele Can Smile

Brazil, Bazaar, Gisele. A ménage à trois of fashion, magazines, and beauty once reserved for the Anna Wintour editor who lives in every fashionista’s mind is now a printed reality.

The inaugural issue of the new Brazilian glossy just hit stands and gracing the cover is an unrecognizable woman: a smiling Gisele Bündchen!

Besides a jetsetting life, flawless features, and millions of dollars, I was beginning to wonder if there was a single thing for the glamazonian to smile over, you know?

Terry Richardson pulls out Gisele’s pearly whites and it’s not the photographer’s signature gross or creepy aesthetic. It’s actually not even the expected bronzed and brooding aesthetic either. Refreshing.

The photo is an above the waist portrait shot, so you can’t sneak a peek at the 32-year-old’s pregnant belly, but better for the cover anyway because Gisele is all a glow. I doubt Terry even had to use flash.

The image is the perfect bedside memento to a recent anecdote from Mario Testino, the photographer who discovered the supermodel, about how no one in the industry wanted her.

“Nobody liked her, nobody wanted her,” he told the Observer. “I had to fight to get her into my stories because nobody thought she was right – too this, too that, the nose, the breasts, the waist. But I believe in being obsessed, in getting obsessed.” Kill them with kindness, Gisele!
