The Maison Martin Margiela and H&M collaboration released its official MMM x H&M look book, fashion bloggers fainted, and now I’m typing this up from the line soon to form behind me at the Beverly Center H&M right now because well-fitting trousers are hard to come by in this economy.
Hitting stores in less than a month—November 15, set that alarm in your iPhone—it’s one of the more interesting fashion guest design collections for the fast fashion chain.
According to a release, the line is a re-edition of “representative” Margiela garments since the label’s founding over two decades ago, and each item will tell you which season it was first introduced by house on their tags.
There are over 104 pieces (women’s, men’s, accessories, footwear) harking back through 23 years of house history, so it’s kind of like Pokemon for people with a passion for fashion. Gotta catch ‘em all (before opportunistic shoppers do and start hawking them on eBay anyway).
If you’re the type who likes to turn heads in da club (“What’s that jacket, Margiela?”) or just studied abroad in fashion-forward Brussels five years ago and still miss it every damn day, you’ll be smitten with the stuff in store here: oversized menswear for women, sparkly scarves, sequin leggings, invisible wedge pumps, and unisexy pants.
It will be interesting to see how it translates with the regular H&M customer who isn’t typically dying for a voluminous comforter coat you can transition from the workplace to the bar to your bed, however. Then again, there are some great widely appealing shoes, and everyone loves shoes.
