Amy Winehouse Inspires Jean Paul Gaultier Fashion Show

It was like an army of Winehouse clones marching down the Paris runway. The models were all done up in beehive wigs off various colors, thick winged eyeliner and even Winehouse’s iconic drawn on mole. Some of the models strutted down the runway puffing on cigarettes.
The collection of clothes walked a fine line between rocker chick, trashy, and retro and the army of Amy look-a-likes paraded down the runway while a live acapella group sang “Rehab” in the background.
Many said the collection all seemed like clothes that Amy would wear and in order for Gaultier to honor Amy and not just rip off her style, he sent the models down the runway for one last pass wearing black veils paying somber respect to the late singer.
Gaultier told WWD, “I think Amy Winehouse was truly a fashion icon. I felt compelled to celebrate…because magazine failed to do so.”
This is the first all-out Amy Winehouse fashion tribute, but earlier in September, Marc Jacobs presented his Spring Runway show and a source close to the designer said much of the collection was inspired by Winehouse’s passing.
“He felt like it affected him, “ a source told People, “[You could see it] a little bit in the hair and the eye.”
