Tina suggested that Ashlee and Jessica combine their styles and create a little girls clothing line.
"My mother thought it would be great to combine both of our styles, both of our personalities," Jessica Simpson told Fashionista.com at the launch of their new pre-teen clothing line at Dylan's Candy Bar last week.
Jessica describes her own style as "pretty classic, I'm pretty easy going" and also "all-American" but she describes Ashlee's style as "rock 'n' roll, cool, boho-chic." "Combining the two is always fun," says Jessica.
Back in June, Jessica announced that she would be expanding the Jessica Simpson empire by designing with her sister, “I’m excited to bring my sister, Ashlee, along as co-creative director of this division, because she brings a savvy rocker edge that defines today’s tweens,” says Jessica.
Of course, I can't think of any other way to describe "today's tweens" except as "savvy" and with a definitive "rocker edge." Just the other day I just saw a 9-year-old carrying around a Les Paul electric guitar and I thought to myself, "Where does this savvy and edgy tween shop for clothes!? Oh thank god for Ashlee and Jessica Simpson's newest collection!!"
Jessica admits that working with her sister was great, "It feels like we always work together," she says.
"We loved being in the approval meetings together, we loved inspiration shopping together," says Jessica.
I can just imagine these two "inspiration shopping" together.
Jessica: Omigod 5 inch YSL heels! Little girls love these right?
Ashlee: No.
Jessica: How about this really heavy hobo bag?
Ashlee: No.
Jessica: Daisy dukes?
Ashlee: I'm leaving.
The collection is released through Jessica's label and the girls had so much fun working on the collection that they may branch out to a maternity line, baby wear, and girls' footwear.
"It's been fun. I feel like all these little girls are wearing stuff that Ashlee and I would both wear." say Jessica.
Their new endeavor of maternity and baby clothes will launch later next year.
