Johnny Depp who regularly dresses like a sexy homeless person meets an oldey-timey newsie, will be honored by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) as their Fashion Icon of the year.
This is a big deal, mostly because the CFDA are like the Oscars of fashion.
Johnny Depp is being honored for his “personal and eclectic sense of style” namely his “wacky hats” and “watch chains.”
He will be the first male to be honored with the award. Lady Gaga crabbed the award last year, so clearly, “dressing crazy” is highly praised by the CFDA. However, we should praise Johnny Depp for rocking a creep-stache and a soul patch and making it look hot.
Other preset CFDA winners include Tommy Hilfger, who will receive the Geoffrey Been Lifetime Achievement Award.
Other notable names competing for an award are Ashley Olsen & Mary-Kate Olsen for the Row and Marc Jacobs competing for the Womenswear Designer of the year Award. The winner will be unveiled on June 4, 2012.
Full list of CFDA nominees: Womenswear Designer of the Year: Ashley Olsen & Mary-Kate Olsen for the Row, Jack McCollough & Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler and Marc Jacobs
Menswear Designer of the Year: Billy Reid, Patrik Ervell and Simon Spurr
Accessory Designer of the Year: Alexander Wang, Jack McCollough & Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler and Reed Krakoff
