Cosmetics brand Elizabeth Arden, who already distributes all of Britney Spears' fragrances, has just bought up the fragrance licenses for Justin Bieber’s forthcoming fragrances and Nicki Minaj’s debut perfume.
This is all in an attempt to pump up their celebrity portfolio. That’s code for “we’re going to get richer.”
Justin Bieber’s debut fragrance, “Someday” was the best selling celebrity fragrance launch ever. That just means that he sold a lot of bottles of perfume, very quickly. “Someday” sold more than $3 million in retail sales in the first three weeks!
According to Elizabeth Arden they were practically salivating over the news that they had just acquired the Justin Bieber fragrance rights, “We’ve been keen observers of Justin Bieber’s fragrance and his participation in it. When you look at the combination of Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift’s Wonderstruck, together they accounted for half of the U.S. growth in fragrance last season.”
Bieber’s fragrance brought in $39 million in 2011. He’s set to debut a second fragrance, entitled Girlfriend, next week. Awww, his fragrance is a companion piece to his song “Boyfriend.”
Nicki Minaj, on the other hand, will launch her very first fragrance this September.
According to a release from Elizabeth Arden, “The marketing and creative activities for these fragrance brands will continue to be managed externally by their existing team. Sales, finance and operational activities will be absorbed by the respective Elizabeth Arden functions.”
What this means to you is, do you want to smell like an 18-year-old’s girlfriend or a crazy harajuku barbie doll? Because you can do both.
