Karl Lagerfeld's Spring/Summer 2012 Collection Inspired by the Sea
October 4, 2011 by: PAULENE BROOKS

With Karl, we know what to expect as he keeps true to the Chanel brand with the tweed jackets and little black dresses. The majority of the collection was white, off white or nude with some black thrown in for good measure.
Florence Welch performed during the white wonderland. The stage replaced the massive iceberg and volcanic landscapes of seasons past. There was a simplistic elegance to the collection. Lots of white, lots of pearls. Karl not only used layered pearls around the neckline, but also as belts. Very Chanel.
“I absolutely wanted to avoid mermaids and things like that,” Lagerfeld said sporting a seashell pink shirt and matching tie. “I was inspired by the movement of seaweed, its lightness, and by certain fish that have very modern shapes, like sting rays.”
The usage of Pearls made the collection more reminiscing of the days Coco was designing the line herself. There was a whimsical mysterious feel to the line, something that’s sure to get a ton of praise from fashion critics.
There were a lot of shorter fitted tweed jackets this season and of course they were all beautiful.
Chanel’s president Bruno Pavlovsky recently spoke about Karl’s success saying that it comes from constantly reinventing the iconic items.
He explained: "Chanel is a modern brand, constantly moving forward, cultivating its extraordinary and innate sense of creation and of fashion with eight collections per year designed by Karl Lagerfeld. It also has a rich patrimony with strong icons such as the tweed jacket, the little black dress, the two tone shoes, the camellia, that transcend time and are regularly reinterpreted by Karl Lagerfeld."
Although Bruno believes that staying true to the tradition is important, he also thinks that the brand must always look into the future.
He vogue.co.uk: "The brand has strong roots and is resolutely open to the world and turning towards the future. The Chanel message is communicated through different means: an ephemeral boutique, Chanel News, ambassadresses, shows, with contents adapted to each media and consistent with the brand's values."
Uma Thurman was seen sitting front row at the show and Miranda Kerr walked the show. Miranda has been one of the most sought out models during this Paris Fashion Week. We’ve seen her walk in almost all the big named fashion shows.
