In homage to the late Princess Diana, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton wore a royal blue dress to her first ever public speaking engagement, because Princess Di wore blue to her first public speech as well, and omigod I just learned why it’s called “royal” blue. Wow, I’ve been in the dark for a lot of years.

Kate Middleton wore her mother’s blue Reiss dressed with a thick black belt, classic black heels and a matching clutch for her first ever speaking engagement.

Middleton gave a public speech at the opening of the East Anglia Children’s hospice Treehouse center, where she toured the facilities, planted some trees and gave a short speech in front of 600 people.

“I feel hugely honored to be here to see this wonderful center,” she told the crowd, “I am only sorry that William can’t be here today, he would love it here.”

Reiss is very much the un-official brand of the Royal family. Kate wore a fitted taupe dress by Reiss when she met the Obamas. She also went to the Derby in a Reiss frock, and then wore the white “Nanette” dress for her engagement photos.

Kate is also a fan of Royal blue, it’s not only the royal color, but totally HER color. She’s been known to rock several royal hued dresses since her inception as the Duchess of Cambridge.
