Madonna Loves Kate Middleton's Style
December 6, 2011 by: MADISON VANDERBERG

"She is a lovely girl with a great sense of style. Her wedding dress by Alexander McQueen was very beautiful," says Madonna of Duchess Catherine.
Kate Middleton must be a fan of Madonna's style too. Madonna wore a pink satin dress for British designer Stella McCartney in May 2008 to the Canes Film Festival and The Duchess of Cambridge wore the exact same dress over the summer to a dinner for Prince Philip's 90th birthday celebration.
"I like her choices," says Madonna. Well, duh, she took a style cue from you.
"She's elegant and still knows how to have some fun. I'm a fan of her style," says Madonna.
Madonna has taken an interest in the royal family starting with Queen Victoria and turned that interest into the subject of her directorial debut for W.E., which tells the story of how King Edward VIII abdicated the throne of England in 1937 to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson.
Madonna even admires Wallis Simpson's style, "She developed a style and stuck with it whether people were interested or not. I admire her individuality," says the pop star.
Madonna admits she has something of "an obsession with the royal family." While doing research for W.E. she notes how she admires how modern the royal family has become in recent years.
"The freedom that Catherine has and the freedom the royal family has now is nice and is refreshing," says Madonna.
"It's too bad that Edward VIII didn't have that same kind of freedom back in 1937 to make his own decisions and to be the prince of the people, which Prince William is allowed to be. I like how modern they are now."
However, Madonna isn't the only person idolizing Kate Middleton's style. After the Duchess topped the British Harper's Bazaar Best Dressed List, Harper's editor Lucy Yeoman said of Middleton, "She gave us the year's - if not the century's - most thrilling fashion moment."
Vogue editor Anna Wintour has this to say about Middleton, "There's nothing trashy or vulgar about her. She dresses her age and never looks out of place."
However, some people don't seem to be as impressed by her. Nordstrom director Gregg Andrews says, "She is stylish, but she's not setting trends, she's following trends."
Whatever the case, Madonna likes her. But if Madonna starts wearing two piece skirt suits, with sensible heels and one of those weird fascinator hat things, I might start worrying.
