New Hair Trend: Side Braids
Listen up, fashionistas! Side ponies are not going to cut it anymore. Spring is here! And there’s a fresh new hairstyle that goes perfectly with the floral trend we’re seeing everywhere: the side braid!

Hollywood has just caught on to the funky bohemian style, and we’ve already spotted a few leading ladies with the hairstyle. Here are three completely separate—and totally stylish—ways to rock the side braid you know you want to pull off!

Nicole Richie: Dubbed the queen of Bohemian chic, Nicole debuted a messy side braid while in Paris in February to launch her Winter Kate fashion line. Nicole never goes for the overdone look, and this braid totally matches her effortless style. To achieve the look, leave a few long pieces in front, scrunch it up with sea salt spray, and loosen up the braid once it’s done.

Selena Gomez: Disney’s own princess always manages to look so graceful every time she hits the red carpet. She’s got a gorgeous main of hair that looks just as pretty pulled back as it does down and flowing. We talked to Selena at the Kids’ Choice Awards, where she donned a more-coiffed style side braid that went great with her lemon yellow strapless dress. It was a scorcher that day in LA, and this is the perfect way to get your hair out of your way! To get Selena’s look, tease your entire head of hair, comb it out, and smooth it with styling spray before pulling it into a braid. Use bobby pins (that match your hair color) to tame those shorter pieces.

Katie Cassidy: Katie’s version of the side braid is somewhere between Nicole’s and Selena’s. She rocked the look at People’s Choice, dressing down a metallic frock with the messy updo. This works great for girls with long sweeping side bangs. Let the bangs do their own thing, and then try to “French” braid your hair to the side, starting with small pieces close to your ear, and then gathering more and more pieces along the way.

We know this is a ton of info, but practice makes perfect! And don’t get frazzled if a few pieces fall down here and there—the point of the side braid is looking like you just threw it together—even though we know you spent longer on it!

Get the Look: Amelia's Aviator Style
Hilary Swank’s Amelia just hit theatres and there is no doubt that people are already sporting aviator chic trends inspired by the historical figure Amelia Earhart herself.

Melrose Place star Katie Cassidy shows off her take on the new trend as she exits LA boutique Intuition. Katie’s “Miss Top Gun” aviator bomber is so legit that it even features vintage patches and a pin up girl lining. ($550 at Intuition).

Now lucky for us, Intuition’s sister website Shop Intuition has some recession friendly alternatives.

The Vintage inspired aviator jacket looks as if it was found in Amelia’s very own closet. It even has a faux fur lining sure to keep you warm while you pull your plane out of the hangar, or realistically as you pull your car out of the garage. ($75 at Shop Intuition )

The Crinkled faux-leather bomber jacket is a gorgeous burgundy color sure to compliment your cold weather wardrobe and it gives a new twist to the black leather jacket we were all obsessed with earlier this year. ($65 at Shop Intuition)

Amelia’s whereabouts are unfortunately a mystery, but there is no mystery behind the fact that the next big trend of the year is inspired by the famous female aviator herself.

Along with the jacket, we must say Katie did a good job of mixing the haute betts jewels.
