Time will tell whether Katie Holmes will be successful as a high fashion designer.

However, if the premiere of her label Holmes & Yang at New York City’s Lincoln Center is any indication of her industry future, it’s a promising start.

Today, the 33-year-old “Batman Begins” actress premiered the spring/summer 2013 collection of a label she shares with her friend and celebrity stylist Jeanne Yang.

The presentation—models standing fully styled on wooden tier-leveled stages in the clothing—was described as understated and low-key. Overall, clothing-wise, it all looks pretty much like Katie—which is either a sweet compliment or a lackluster ‘meh’ depending on how many seasons of Dawson’s Creek you own on DVD.

Some polite standouts were a camel camisole with a suede cape, quilted leather bomber jacket, and pleated men’s trousers.

This isn’t a “directional” line á la Marc Jacobs’ collection this season, but I doubt that is within Holmes & Yang’s aspirations. Instead it’s reflective of the relaxed Katie style—a completely wearable line and will probably do just great with her fan base and women looking for stable separates.

Makeup maven Bobbi Brown was responsible for the fresh and natural faces, keeping with the recent announcement that Katie has signed on to be the first-ever celebrity spokes model for the cosmetics brand.

Katie won’t be jet setting away from New York any time soon. She’s slated to return to the Broadway stage for Dead Accounts. The curtain will rise for that play in November.
