Zach Galifianakis’s character reportedly carries what is a knock-off LV, but as the audience we don’t know that, I mean, I’m sure if any member of the Vuitton family or any of The Real Housewives of Atlanta watched this flick they would notice the difference, but the kind of people who think The Hangover II was funny, would not know the difference.
So anyways, in the flick, Galifianakis’s character totes a fake LV handbag and in the scene he says, “Careful, that is a Louis Vuitton.”
LV is unhappy with the scene and says it would cause confusion among consumers, because the purse is fake. Apparently they aren’t familiar with the motto: You can lie, as long as it’s funny.
The fashion brand wants the scene cut from the film and they also demand a share of the movie’s profits. They should just dub his voice over to say, “Careful, that is a [Knock-off, that I bought in Chinatown] Louis Vuitton.
LV says the incident in the film caused them trademark dilution, false designation of origin and unfair competition. LV is also suing the company that made the fake bags for the movie. Chinese American company Diophy, which makes the bag is being sued by Vuitton in an attempt to keep them from selling the knock-offs in the US.
