Madonna's Iconic Bustier Sells for $72,000

Before Madonna had Kabbalah, she had cone bras. Madge’s iconic black bustier cone bra went up for auction this week and it fetched some serious cash, £45,000 ($72,000 USD) to be exact.

The custom made piece, created by Los Angeles based store Trashy Lingerie, was worn during her entire ‘Who’s That Girl’ world tour back in 1987. It went under the hammer in China and sold way above what they had originally estimated, which was £4,000 to £5,000. They probably didn’t anticipate people paying extra for Madonna’s boob sweat.

So where has this cone bra been since she first wore it in ’87? It’s been on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio and The Frederick's of Hollywood Museum in Los Angeles.

And that’s not the only iconic piece of Madonna memorabilia sold, among some of the other items sold were a signed copy of her risqué 1992 'Sex' book, which was valued at £500 - £750 ($800 - $1,200) but went for £2,000 ($3,200) and a recording of the song Simon Says with her band Emmy and the Emmys, which was expected to fetch £400-£500 ($600 - $800) but made £750 ($1,216).

The bustier was one of 517 items of celebrity memorabilia from stars including Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley and Princess Diana.

Darren Julien, owner of Julien's Auctions, said: "When you're buying these things, you're buying a memory."

Madonna’s stylist and costume designer Martha Stewart (no, not that Martha Stewart) handpicked this outfit for her first world tour 24 years ago.

She said at the time: "The most important ingredients are the crop top, the bare midriff, a hip-hugger skirt or pants and lingerie straps showing under your top."

Funny enough, Madonna’s cone bra, fishnet stockings and pantsless stage attire is what’s in right now. Everything Lady Gaga wears resembles something Madonna has once worn, but with an extra dose of crazy. And Christina Aguilera recently wore something very similar during the Michael Jackson tribute concert. Only difference is, Christina realllly filled out her bodysuit and she really should have worn pants.
