Marchesa debuted it’s Fall 2012 collection in an intimate style show at The Plaza’s Palm Court in New York.
The collection took inspiration from a 19th century portrait entitled “A Sour Brought to Heaven” which portrayed two gothic style angels carrying someone to heaven. The entire collection was inspired by that image and resulted in a dark yet whimsical show full of religious art and iconography.
I can see any of these beautiful gowns on the red carpet come Oscar Sunday, which I’m sure is the reason why the show attracted a way more A-List crowd than any other presentation at NY Fashion Week.
Stars like Stacy Keibler, Bar Refaeli, Petra Nemcova, Jenna Dewan Tatum, Olivia Palermo, Taylor Momsen and Rachel Zoe all attended the show.
Ok, maybe some of those names aren’t exactly “A-List,” especially Olivia Palermo, what does she “do” exactly?
Anyways, the collection was full of beautiful dark shades of red, blue, and gold accented in nude, creams and ivory. Bronze and silver fabrics were delicately laser-cut into wing-like embroidery with lots of feather embellishment. Actually too much feather at times, my allergies were acting up just looking at the images.
Their were plenty of skeleton body suits with hand embroidered lace, dramatic skirts in pleated tulle, and gilded gold accents. It was dramatic yet feminine, dark yet playful. I could see celebs like Olivia Wilde, Charlize Theron, Lea Michelle, or Michelle Williams wearing any of these designs at the Oscars.
The tone of the collection could be summed up as “Black Swan” meets “Keira Knightley in a period piece movie about dead royalty.”
