Trends From the 2012 Met Gala
They call the Met Gala, the “fashion Oscars” but it is far more glamorous than the Oscars and the fashion ranges from safe and subtle, to demure and chic, to crazy and catwalk. We’ve rounded up the standout trends from this years 2012 Met Gala.


Gwyneth Paltrow started the cape trend with the white Tom Ford cap gown she wore to the 2012 Oscars. Clearly the trend has caught on.

Lana Del Rey: Lana wore a silver Joseph Altuzarra dress with a black cape. Lana walked the red carpet with the designer, who said the look is the “embodiment of her music.”

Anna Wintour: Vogue's editor in chief Anna Wintour arrived at the Met Gala in a Prada update of Elsa Schiaparelli's lobster-embellished dress. She wore a white fur cape with the dress. This is the first time in six years that Anna hasn't worn Chanel to the Met Gala.

Maroon Lips:

Charlize Theron is a celeb whose known to rock a maroon lip from time to time, but at the Met Gala, Lana Del Rey, Camilla Belle and Rachel Zoe all had darkly painted lips.


Gold and Metallic print dresses always pop against the red carpet, and reminds us of royalty, so it’s no wonder Hollywood royalty rocked some shimmery frocks. Jessica Alba: Alba wore a gold Michael Kors Grecian style dress. Camille Belle: Belle looked stunning in this silver Ralph Lauren Collection gown. Carey Mulligan: Mulligan wore a metallic silver and gold dress that might have been made of metal. This Prada dress made her look ready for battle. Jessica Pare: The “Mad Men” actress also went with the gold trend in a sequined gown by L’Wren Scott.

Bright and Bold Colors:

Bright primary solid colors were a hit this year as well.

January Jones: Jones rocked a bright yellow Versace gown.

Dianna Agron: The “Glee” actress wore a green Carolina Herrera dress to the fete.

Solange Knowles: The Knowles family really loves to wear color. Solange looked great in a bright yellow Rachel Roy strapless dress.

Emma Stone: Stone wore a dark pink/bright red Lanvin dress, paired with her new blonde hair she looked like a Barbie.
