While Barack Obama was rattling on about tax brackets, class warfare and the 99% percent, those of us more sartorial minded viewers were trying to scope out what Michelle Obama was wearing.

Proving she’s become something of a style-icon, Michelle Obama attended the State of the Union address in a stunning cobalt blue dress from Barbara Tfank’s resort collection.

You know Michelle probably accepted the gift for free from the designer, so reps for the brand wouldn’t reveal the retail price for the sheath. However, a similar dress is currently retailing at $2,400 and while some designer gowns have steeper prices that that, wearing a $2K+ dress while your husband is going on about the unfair lifestyles of the 99% and Washington elite, yesterday might have been the time to wear that Target dress you love so much Michelle. Just saying.

Anyways, Michelle Obama is becoming a fashion icon for wives and professional women everywhere. She’s got the same kind of appeal that Jackie Onassis had, except she’s fun and modern.

Michelle is a fan of Barbara Tfank’s designs, she wore a pale green satin dress by the designer when she met with Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge.

According to Michelle, “Everything in my closet is something that I love,” says Michelle, “So that I can make choices based on what makes sense, knowing that I’m going to love whatever it is.”
