It’s been awhile since we’ve seen Michelle Obama dressed to the nines. And when she does it, she’s always a stunner.

Michelle and President Barack Obama hosted their first State Dinner last night in Washington, DC, and designer Naeem Kahn got the honor of dressing the First Lady for the Indian-themed event.

The Indian designer told People, “I feel so happy to be a part of this historical event between the two countries where my heart lies. I am relieved to have a job well done and am so honored to have been chosen. This is a Thanksgiving in its truest form for me and one that I will never forget — an American dream coming true.”

The designer, who immigrated to the U.S. as a teenager, created Michelle’s one-of-a-kind sterling silver sequin dress with an abstract floral motif, accented with Bochic earrings. Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh even appreciated the beauty of the look, saying in his toast that he was “overwhelmed…by the grace and charm of the First Lady.”
