Miuccia Prada is always walking a balancing beam design-wise, but the trick she pulls off each and every season is you barely notice. Oh, and the models always do it in a pair of whacky shoes.
The Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2013 Collection was no exception, carefully combining aesthetics from old wives' tales with functional silhouettes. It made for quite serviceable results, especially in the outerwear pieces which were wearable, but still featured that quirky Miu Miu touch we've come to expect from the label.
Coats stole the show at Miu Miu this season. They came in basic blues and blacks, cinched at the waist, styled with polka-dotted scarves. Beneath every look was a peek-a-boo touch of graphic fabrics in skirted fishtail hems that had you thinking of childhood tales like Hansel & Gretel or the witches striped stockings from Oz right before they curled up under Dorothy's house.
Running with this storybook theme, the dark peacoats adorned with single ribbon hems also felt right at home here, like bookmarks placed between the pages of a folksy fable.
