MODAMOB EXCLUSIVE
September 14, 2011 by: MADISON VANDERBERG

She opened up about her Spring 2012 Collection, why she's the go-to designer for celebrity red carpet looks, how Kate Middleton has influenced fashion and what a bride should look for in a perfect wedding dress.
Here's what Monique Lhuillier had to tell us:
On what we can expect from her Spring Collection:
"For spring, you're going to see a lot of athletic influence, it has all my usual couture fabrics, the laces, the beautiful silks, but they are cut with a razor sharp shoulder and really low backs."
On how the modern woman's style has changed:
"I feel like women take care of themselves, they work out, they are into fitness more that ever. [My collection] has a very tough edge to it this season, I incorporated leather, it has a different vibe, but the quality and the luxury is still there, but it's modern and new and sexy."
What kind of red-carpet looks can we expect to see at the Emmy's?
"For the Emmys, you're gonna see a lot of color, lots of silhouettes that are very close to the body. Like I said, women are taking greater care of their physiques, they want to show it off. [We'll see] lots of body hugging silhouettes, long [dresses] and color, and may be a little shimmer."
On who she's dressing at this years Emmy's?
*making a lips-are-sealed motion and laughing* "I don't know."
On why so many celebs wear her clothes:
"Since I'm a woman, I understand how women want to feel on their special occasions. I cut very close to the body and I know how to accentuate the waist and the bust-line and make women feel so beautiful and confident in the dresses. I think thats why celebrities and brides come to me for their special moments."
On how she designs wedding dresses:
"when I meet with a bride, I tell her, try on a lot of different silhouettes and go in with an open mind. You never know what looks best on your figure until you're in the dress. Then they tell me "There's something special about this one." From there, I start designing with that silhouette in mind."
On what you shouldn't follow trends:
"Im not really one to suggest to buying a magazine and ripping out pages. I think you should shop for what looks best for you and not follow trends."
On how the Royal Wedding is influencing fashion:
"There are some things that came out of the Royal Wedding. The trend of lace that has become even hotter since she [Kate Middleton] choose to wear that. Sleeves are making a comeback as well. I think people are also celebrating their wedding in a bigger and splashier way. Those are the trends that we pulled from the Royal Wedding."
What are red carpet DO's?
"Whatever dress you buy you have to tailor it to fit you the best because its all about fit and how you feel in it. If you really want to stand out, wear color. Thats the biggest do.
What is a red carpet DONT?
"Do not show too much cleavage. It's always more sensual when you leave some things to the imagination."
