Kohl’s has jumped on the obscure-designer-capsule-collection train. Like Macy’s collabs with designers like Alberta Ferretti and Doo.Ri and H&M’s upcoming range with Maison Martin Margiela, Kohl’s has just announced it’s new collection with designer Narciso Rodriquez.
Narciso boasts celeb clients like Claire Danes and Sarah Jessica Parker but really made a name for himself when Mrs. Obama wore one of his Spring 2009 dresses to celebrate Barack Obama’s election night win back in 2008!
Kohl's said that Rodriguez will be the first designer under its new DesigNation concept, which will feature designer clothing based on international inspirations. A recent trip by Rodriguez to Istanbul is the setting for his clothing creations.
“In Istanbul, I found beauty in colors, textures and patterns, but also in the nuances of the city; the patina on the walls, the color of the stone and the way people moved...” said Rodriguez. “I am excited to partner with Kohl’s to bring this DesigNation collection to life and provide women with beautiful clothing at an accessible price."
Kohl’s will launch multiple DesigNation collections throughout the year. Each collection will feature a different designer, marrying his or her aesthetic with influence from various international destinations.
This isn’t Kohl’s first design initiative. They’ve teamed up with Vera Wang, Jennifer Lopez, and Levi’s, but this new DesignNation concept aims to bring more unique names to their retail store.
