One-on-One With Nicky Hilton
Nicky Hilton has been really busy with her new jewelry line that's a favorite among celebrities.
Modamob.com conducted a one-on-one interview with Hilton to see where she draws inspiration, where she sees her Nicky Hilton label going and her dos and don'ts in fashion.
1) You have a jewelry line. How did you decide to get into designing jewelry?
-I love jewelry! I've been obsessed with it since I was a little girl. Jewelry adds character to a person and to an outfit. Every piece I own has a interesting story behind it.
2) When was the first time you were excited seeing your jewelry on a celebrity? As a designer, what was that feeling like?
-It's very exciting seeing someone in my pieces, whether it be a celebrity or a random person walking down the street. Emily Blunt has a worn a bunch of pieces recently. She's so chic and looks great in the line.
3) What's another avenue that you would like to get into when it comes to designing? Possibly shoes, purses, hats, wedding dresses?
-I would love to do handbags again. I started my foray into the fashion world designing purses when I was a teenager.
4) What would an ideal wedding dress be for a designer like you, traditional or modern?
-I'm very old fashioned. I'd definitely go with a traditional dress.
5) How would you describe your style? Simple, trendy, classic?
- I have a very eclectic sense of style. I love it all. I like mixing new with old, high-end designers with affordable brands. I like trendy pieces too, in a limited sense. You can't wear every trend all at once.
6) What is one fashion accessory that you would never leave home without?
-Jewelry! I feel naked if I don't have earrings and a ring on, day or night.
7) What is a fashion "don't" in your book?
- Birkenstocks! I don't care how comfy the are- they are not cute!
8) Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
- I don't know what the future holds. Hopefully doing something I love.
9) Where do you draw inspiration to keep creating new things and new collections?
- My collection is very inspired by the deco era. The jewelry was so glamorous and pretty. Elizabeth Taylor was a huge inspiration as well. I referenced a lot of her photos when designing my line. Her jewelry collection was just out of this world.
10) Who is your favorite designer and why?
- I love Valentino. The clothing is so beautiful. The fabrics, the construction, it's impeccable. And the accessories are to die for- the handbags are my favorite!
11) Who do you aspire to be like in your life?
- I'm inspired by women who have that amazing balance between work and family. Some people say you can't have it all but I disagree. Balance is key.
12) Who is your role model?
-My parents. They met when they were 15 years old and have been married for over 30 years. They show me that true love really does exist.
