All eyes are on Nicole Richie’s The Nicole Richie Collection for QVC. But what are Nicole’s sights set on? Not trends.

Nicole spoke exclusively to ModaMob about the inspirations behind her designs.

“I don’t pay attention to trends,” Nicole tells us. “I really encourage women not to pay attention to trends, to really trust themselves, trust for what makes them feel confident.”

“And I think confidence is really the key, and that’s what’s going to make women beautiful.”

Speaking about her QVC line she says that it is “definitely my aesthetic,” says Nicole, promising, “a lot of velvets, jerseys, some really great chiffons, really cool prints we developed just for this line.”

So, if not the trendy present, what has been inspiring the year-and-a-half process of designing this line?

“I’m hugely inspired by the ‘60s and the ‘70s, I really overall love the freedom of that time,” she says, adding, “With every collection that I do, I always keep music as the main inspiration behind me.”

Not surprising considering she grew up around the music industry - her father is Lionel Richie.

In fact, Nicole tells ModaMob, some of her earliest fashion memories are from her father’s costumes, which sparked her interest in designing.

“When my dad would go on tour, his costume director would make me costumes from the excess fabric,” she remembers. “It’s something that I always knew I wanted to do.”
