Nicole Richie has gotten so far in her reality-TV-star-turned-fashion-designer career without ever having to release a celebrity fragrance! Wow, way to go against the grain!
Now, Richie is finally launching her first ever celeb fragrance. The signature scent has yet to be named, but I’m assuming it will probably be “Nicole by Nicole Richie” or something annoying and vague like “Breathe” or “Sunkissed.”
Richie says the inspiration for the scent is the “many different layers” of perfume her mom used to wear when she was a kid.
“I have a very traditional Southern mom – you never left the house without lotion,” Richie Women’s Wear Daily, “Over her lotion went oil and perfume – she was very put together from head to toe. It wasn’t just a one-dimensional smell – there were many different layers.”
The scent will hit stores in September and will contain hints of Seville orange, Moroccan rose, lily of the valley, sandalwood and sugared patchouli. I knew exactly three of those words (Seville? Patchouli? English please).
She says she wants to create a multi-layered fragrance to highlight the “different layers of a woman,” just like her mom, or whatever.
“I wanted it to represent different layers of a woman, which is why I try to do with Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960,” says Richie, “I’m very particular in the way that I create. We’re in an interesting time right now where women aren’t just one thing – there are many different parts to a woman. So I wanted to create a very intricate bottle that was still elegant, but not so in-your-face girly at the same time.”
