Rihanna Designs Capsule Collection for River Island
Modamob predicted it back in March and now it’s finally happening, Rihanna is collaborating with UK High Street Brand River Island.

River Island is kind of like H&M or Top Shop, and Rihanna will design her own Capsule Collection for the brand.

“I’ve been wanting to design my own collection for some time,” Rihanna said in a statement, “River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family run business also really appealed to me.”

True, the brand’s owner Bernard Lewis’ wife Vanessa is a longtime friend of Rihanna and her mother, so Rihanna has a personal stake in the brand.

“I find London really inspiring and River Island loves to have fun with clothes,” says RiRi, “I’m looking forward to working with them and creating something really special.”

I hope Rihanna designs a collection that is the opposite of her personal style, unless UK fashionistas want to wear sheer bralets, cut off shorts, and hooker boots.

Rihanna is already a veteran “celebrity designer.” She posed for Armani and “designed” two capsule collections for the brand.

Rihanna is also producing and starring in a new British fashion design competition show called “Styled to Rock,” I hear it’s very similar to “Project Runway.”

You would think that hosting a UK talent show is a step-backwards for the huge pop star, but maybe Rihanna looks at it as a way to legitimize her role as a “designer.”

The River Island collection is set for a Spring 2013 launch.
