Robin Lawley is the New Face & Body of Ralph Lauren
Besides already sharing the same initials, Robin Lawley and Ralph Lauren are a perfect fit. The gorgeous Aussie—who’s been on the covers of Vogue Italia and Glamour—has been hired by the American designer in what’s going to be the brand’s first ever: a plus-size model.

Standing at 6’2”, the curvy 23 year-old Wilhelmina-repped bombshell appeared on Good Morning America in a fantastic size 12 McQ dress to announce and talk about her new job, difficulties of starting out at 16 in the waif-thin fashion industry, promoting a curvier ideal, and the future of “plus-size” modeling. “There are so many plus-size models in New York doing so well at the moment, and it’s only getting better,” she said on the show.

Ultimately though it all feels like something of a frustrating stretch to use the phrase “plus-size” considering Robyn stands at a statuesque 6 foot plus and fills out her weight more evenly. When Ralph Lauren hires a size 12 who is 5’7” then we’d have a proportion more industry shattering. Until then, maybe Ralph Lauren should stop saying this is their first “plus-size” model and that it’s their first “normal woman human person being.”

But let's not take away from Robyn’s knockout beauty and happiness with embracing her natural frame.

“I’m 23 now, and I am much happier than I have been in years because I stopped dieting, but it still took a few years for me to really love my body,” she added. “I think when you’re happy with your body, you’re happy in other areas.”

The model also runs a Tumblr blog called “Robyn Lawley eats” where she posts photos of her culinary adventures and celebrates food. See, cupcakes and the catwalk can co-exist.
