Being a mom is bittersweet. You get to enjoy bringing a life into the world. You get to enjoy watching that life grow. Unfortunately, most of the time, you can barely keep your eyes open long enough to know any of that is going on.
Hollywood mom Salma Hayek says that she’s been exhausted for the past three years, which is when her daughter Valentina was born.
Hayek told USA Today: “[Motherhood] is all-consuming. And it's not temporary. I went out with my husband and my agent last night. They were making fun of me because I'm all the time, 24/7, 'Oh, I'm so tired'. They were laughing. I was laughing, too, but inside I wanted to cry because I'm so tired. I'm so happy. Happiness is exhausting."
Happiness not only sounds exhausting, it sounds freaking terrible. Reminder—refill birth control.
But Hayek’s exhaustion may also be due to overbooking herself. Not only was she shooting a movie fulltime, Hayek has created a new beauty, hair and skincare line called Nuance. And she’s admitted, she had no idea how much work that would entail.
“If I had known how much work it was going to be, I wouldn't have done it. I'm incapable of letting someone else take over," she confessed. "I'm micromanaging."
The good news is, all the eyebags and saggy skin Hayek undoubtedly got from working on this product can actually be fixed with this product.
Nuance is a 100 product line that will be sold at CVS stores. Frizzy hair, under-eye bags….Salma has you covered. Hayek says she was a guinea pig for the line, trying every product and working directly with the labs.
“I’ve been working on this for years,” Hayek says. “I burn my face, my eyes, trying this (expletive). I have very sensitive skin. The stuff is really, really, really good.”
Hayek grew up in Mexico with her grandmother, who was an aesthetician who experimented with local plants and herbs.
“My grandmother used to make her creams,” Salma explains. “Some of the creams were super-cheap, but they were so efficient. I knew there was a way of making extraordinary products that make a difference, without spending that kind of money.”
Count me in! I don’t even have kids, and I have eye-bags that look like I’m packing for a two week European vacation. Hayek’s line ranges from $2.99 to $19.99.
