Tom Ford: Why I Won\'t Return to a Major Fashion House
Even if you don’t love Tom Ford the label, you gotta love Tom Ford the man. Simply on the principle that he can give an honest answer in an industry otherwise criticized for its superficiality.

In an interview with Vogue UK, the 51-year-old American designer, when asked if he’d ever entertain returning to a major fashion house, he replied:

“Been there, done that. I learned a tremendous amount from my time at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, but I was always designing within an existing framework. In launching my own line, I am allowed to only create products that I believe in. Everything at Tom Ford is steeped in my DNA - it would be a step backwards for me now to go and design for another fashion house.”

These type of responses aren’t anything unusual for Ford who told Tom Brady that Gisele’s career has a dark side, calling modeling “a horrible job” that gets harder with age.

Insiders might find the answer to be a dig and ungrateful response to Gucci and YSL, the lines that Tom served as creative director at for 10 years. However, I don’t think it’s that big a deal, and rather an expected answer concerning the creative process for talent of his and Gucci and YSL’s caliber. I’m willing to bet that if Gucci and YSL were in Tom’s position, they’d have shared similar sentiments.

He’s also been pushing the boundaries in his own work. He directed the Christopher Isherwood novella A Single Man and released a NSFW lookbook for his menswear spring/summer 2012 collection that barely showed any clothes and just went bare.
